John Mullally

Mr. John Mullally began his career in law enforcement as a member of the Metro-Dade Police Department in 1975. After patrol assignments in the south and central districts, he was promoted to the rank of Detective in the Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Division. He worked in an undercover capacity on major investigations involving the importation of vast quantities of illegal narcotics into the United States as well as gun smuggling, and vice- related investigations.

Mr. Mullally returned to New York and joined the NYPD in 1981. After completion of the Police Academy, he was transferred to the 32nd precinct in Harlem. During this assignment, he participated in an undercover operation involving a major narcotics trafficker and was awarded a transfer by the Integrity Review Board of the NYPD to The Organized Crime Control Bureau. Soon after, he was promoted to the Detective Division. His high activity and case clearance rate afforded him the opportunity to be selected to work in the Manhattan North Homicide Squad. Mr. Mullally was one of the lead investigator’s in the famous “Preppie Murder Case” involving Robert Chambers.

In 1987, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and after patrol assignments in the 30th and 34th precincts, he returned to the Detective Division and was assigned as a supervisor in the Manhattan South Homicide Squad. Sgt. Mullally supervised hundreds of Homicide investigations, most notable were the Paul Castellano Homicide, which led to the arrest and conviction of John Gotti, and the homicide of Rabbi Meir Kahane and the World Trade Center Bombing. Mr. Mullally also served as the Commanding Officer of the 6th pct. (Greenwich Village), the 9th Pct. (East Village) and the Midtown North Detective Squads.

In 1994, Mr. Mullally was transferred to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Squad. He supervised and investigated major fraud and financial investigations for the District Attorney’s office. In addition, he conducted investigations of the Off-Track Betting Corporation, New York Blood Bank, New York City Housing Court, as well as “Murder for Hire Investigations” and Inter-State Gun Trafficking investigations.

Mr. Mullally was transferred to the Intelligence Division in 1997 at the request of the Commanding Officer and was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Special Services Unit, the NYPD’s most confidential investigative unit. Mr. Mullally's unit conducted investigations involving terrorist activities in New York and was designated as the coordinating unit for all Trademark Infringement cases in New York.

Mr. Mullally has also acted as a consultant for Police Departments throughout the world as well as local, state and federal agencies. He has consulted for the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in 2000, The International Monetary Fund Meetings in Washington D.C., served on the management teams for the Millennium celebration in New York. In addition, Mr. Mullally created and organized the Joint NYPD/Secret Service Counter Surveillance Team to assess potential threats for visiting heads of state as well as the President of the United States.
